Dear Members of MEESO,
Welcome to all members of the Modern English Education Society (MEESO).
I am Prof. Moongee Jeon at Konkuk University, currently serving as the President of the 13th Modern English Education Society.
In the rapidly changing environment due to the influence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, I wish all the members of MEESO who are tirelessly working day and night for the advancement of English education in Korea great success.
First and foremost, I would like to express my deep gratitude to the 12th board members of MEESO for their tireless dedication and hard work in advancing MEESO. It is thanks to their significant efforts and dedication that our society has been able to grow.
Since its founding in 2000, MEESO has made significant contributions to the development and growth of English education in Korea through the unwavering efforts and collaboration of former presidents, board members, and MEESO members. As the 13th President, I promise to do my best to further enhance the growth of our society.
In recent times, the boundaries of academia have been breaking down due to the influence of cognitive science and interdisciplinary studies. Research utilizing cutting-edge AI Chatbots and ChatGPT based on information science technologies has been on the rise in the field of English education. Moreover, there is a growing need for learning programming languages such R and Python, which are applied in advanced statistical analysis and big data analysis. On another front, research utilizing eye tracking equipment and EEG (electroencephalogram) measurement devices widely used in psychology research is gradually progressing. MEESO will regularly provide a platform for interdisciplinary communication based on these innovative research methodologies through conferences, workshops, seminars, and tutorial meetings. We aim to lead and expand English education in South Korea.
MEESO will also continue its efforts to elevate its academic journal, [Modern English Education], to an internationally recognized English education journal and work towards its inclusion in SCOPUS. The journal has already received recognition for its academic value and scholarly excellence in the 2022 journal reevaluation by the National Research Foundation of Korea. Starting from the 24th volume, manuscripts can be submitted at any time and, after undergoing the review process, will be published on a monthly basis. We earnestly request the active interest and submission of papers from our members to further enhance the quality of our journal.
I humbly ask for the active cooperation and support of all our members to ensure the continued growth and development of the 13th Modern English Education Society under the new leadership. May smiles be on the faces of all our members through MEESO in the days ahead.

안녕하십니까. 제13대 현대영어교육학회 회장으로 일하게 된 건국대학교 전문기입니다.
4차 산업혁명의 영향으로 급변하는 환경 속에서 한국 영어교육의 무궁한 발전을 위해 불철주야 애쓰시는 현대영어교육학회 회원분들 모두 건승하시기를 기원합니다.
먼저, 아낌없는 노력과 헌신으로 현대영어교육학회의 발전을 위해 수고해 주신 제12대 회장단 및 임원진 분들께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전해드립니다. 여러분들 모두의 지대한 관심과 수고로 인해서 학회가 더욱 성장할 수 있었습니다.
현대영어교육회는 2000년에 창립된 이후, 전임 회장단, 임원진, 그리고 회원분들 모두의 아낌없는 노력과 화합으로 인해 한국 영어교육의 발전과 성장에 크게 이바지하고 있습니다. 제13대 회장으로써 막중한 책임감을 느끼며 앞으로 학회가 더 크게 성장하는 데 최선의 노력을 다할 것을 약속드립니다.
최근 들어, 인지과학 및 융합과학의 영향으로 학문의 경계가 허물어지면서 영어교육 분야에도 정보과학기술에 기반한 최첨단 AI Chatbot 및 ChatGPT 등을 활용한 연구들이 증가하고 있습니다. 아울러 고급통계 분석에 활용되는 R 및 빅데이터 분석 등에 적용되는 Python과 같은 프로그래밍 언어에 대한 학습의 필요성이 크게 대두되고 있습니다. 다른 한편에서는 심리학 연구 등에 광범위하게 사용되는 안구운동추적 장비(eyetracker) 및 뇌파 측정 장비(EEG) 등을 활용한 연구들도 조금씩 진행되고 있습니다. 현대영어교육학회는 앞으로 정기 학술대회, 워크숍, 세미나, 튜토리얼 미팅 등을 통해 이러한 다학제적 연구방법론에 기반한 참신한 연구 아이디어와 의견이 활발히 교류될 수 있는 다학문적 소통의 장을 주기적으로 마련함으로써 대한민국 영어교육의 발전과 확대를 주도해 나가도록 하겠습니다.
현대영어교육학회는 또한 편집 및 출판 임원진들, 각 분야 전문가들과 협조하여 본 학회에서 발행하는 학술지인 [현대영어교육]을 국제적 수준의 영어교육 전문지로 발전시켜 일차적으로 SCOPUS에 등재시키기 위한 노력을 지속할 것입니다. [현대영어교육] 학술지는 이미 2022년 한국연구재단 재인증 평가에서 학술적 가치와 학문적 우수성을 인정받았습니다. 24권부터 수시로 논문 접수 및 출간을 하고 있는데 앞으로 우리 학회의 학술지가 질적 및 양적으로 더욱 발전할 수 있도록 회원분들의 적극적인 관심과 논문 투고를 당부드립니다.
제13대 현대영어교육학회가 새로운 회장단 및 임원진을 바탕으로 앞으로 더욱 발전과 성장을 거듭할 수 있도록 모든 회원분들의 적극적인 협조 및 응원을 부탁드립니다. 제13대 임기 동안에도 MEESO로 인해 모든 회원분들의 얼굴에 미소가 가득하시기를 기원합니다.
