Greetings. I am Jayeon Lim from the University of Seoul, and it is my great honor to serve as the 14th President of MEESO and to extend my greetings to you on behalf of MEESO.
First and foremost, I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to the past presidents and executive members whose leadership and dedication have guided the growth of MEESO and established its present stature. I also sincerely thank our members for your continued support and commitment to MEESO.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, MEESO has grown into a leading academic society in the field of English education in Korea, thanks to the devotion of its members. Our annual conferences have reflected both the research interests of members and the voices of the educational field, while various workshops have provided timely opportunities to respond to the demands of a changing era. Our KCI-indexed journal, Modern English Education, has consistently published outstanding research achievements. Since 2023, we have strengthened the journal’s researcher-friendly operation by introducing a rolling submission system and an expedited review process, thereby enhancing its quality and impact. These accomplishments have provided a solid foundation for responding proactively to today’s rapidly changing English education environment.
Currently, English education is being shaped by key themes, including AI and learning analytics, digital literacy and hybrid learning, competency-based education and performance- or process-oriented assessment, inclusivity and multilingual/multicultural competence, as well as global citizenship and sustainability. Furthermore, interdisciplinary research that bridges linguistics, cognitive science, social science, and data science is becoming increasingly prominent. MEESO is committed to embracing these trends and serving as a bridge that links research with educational practice.
Looking ahead, I will devote my utmost efforts to strengthening the status of MEESO and developing it into one that is nationally and internationally recognized. Together with executive members across the country, I will strive to ensure efficient and transparent management, and I will provide full support so that all academic activities—conferences, workshops, and journal publications—can proceed smoothly. Above all, I hope MEESO will continue to be a strong partner in helping our members find fulfillment and growth both as researchers and as members of the educational community.
The advancement of MEESO depends on the active participation and support of its members. I will always listen attentively to your voices and, with a strong sense of responsibility as president, do my best to lead the MEESO toward further growth and development.

안녕하십니까. 서울시립대학교 임자연입니다. 제14대 현대영어교육학회장으로 학회를 대표해 인사드리게 된 것을 큰 영광으로 생각합니다.
먼저, 아낌없는 노력과 헌신으로 현대영어교육학회의 발전을 위해 수고해 주신 제12대 회장단 및 임원진 분들께 깊은 감사의 말씀을 전해드립니다. 여러분들 모두의 지대한 관심과 수고로 인해서 학회가 더욱 성장할 수 있었습니다.
올해로 창립 25주년을 맞이한 현대영어교육학회는 회원님들의 헌신 덕분에 우리나라 영어교육을 선도하는 학술단체로 성장했습니다. 정기 학술대회와 다양한 워크숍은 연구와 현장의 목소리를 담아내 왔고, 한국연구재단 등재지인 ⸢현대영어교육⸥(Modern English Education)은 우수한 연구 성과를 꾸준히 발표해 왔습니다. 특히 2023년부터 상시투고제와 긴급논문심사 제도를 도입하여 연구자 친화적이고 질적으로 강화된 학술지 운영을 실현하고 있습니다. 이러한 성과는 급변하는 영어교육 환경에 능동적으로 대응할 수 있는 든든한 기반이 되었습니다.
오늘날 변화하는 영어교육은 AI와 학습분석, 디지털 리터러시와 하이브리드 학습, 역량 기반 교육과 수행·과정 중심 평가, 포용성과 다언어·다문화 역량, 그리고 글로벌 시민성과 지속가능성을 핵심 주제로 삼고 있습니다. 아울러 언어학, 인지과학, 사회과학, 데이터 과학을 아우르는 다학제적 연구도 점차 두드러지고 있습니다. 우리 학회는 이러한 흐름을 적극 반영하며, 연구와 교육 현장을 연결하는 가교로서 역할을 다하겠습니다.
앞으로 저는 학회의 위상을 더욱 공고히 하고 국제적으로 인정받는 학회로 발전시키기 위해 최선을 다하겠습니다. 전국에서 함께하는 임원진과 협력하여 효율적이고 투명한 운영을 이루고, 학술대회, 워크숍, 학술지 등 모든 활동이 원활히 진행되도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠습니다. 무엇보다 회원님들께서 학회를 통해 연구자로서, 또 교육 공동체의 일원으로서 보람과 성장을 경험하시도록 든든한 동반자가 되겠습니다.
현대영어교육학회의 발전은 회원님들의 적극적 참여와 성원에 달려 있습니다. 저는 회원님들의 의견에 늘 귀 기울이며, 회장으로서 막중한 책임감을 가지고 학회의 도약을 위해 최선을 다하겠습니다.
